What is a Proctor?

A proctor is a trusted adult volunteer who monitors decathletes while testing during rounds III and IV of the competition. Each participant must find their own proctor. It needs to be someone who can be present for the entire duration of all exams. Suitable proctors include parents, guardians, teachers, or librarians. They must not be an Academic Decathlon® coach or assistant coach.

What Does a Proctor Do?

- Vigilantly monitor the test to prevent cheating.
- Ensure the exam is conducted according to the official rules.
- Fill out and submit the official proctor form called the Proctor Affidavit.
- This document is included with information sent to the participants. Participants must provide their proctor with the form, so it may be helpful to print the form out ahead of time and have it available during the competition.
Proctors must not influence or assist students during the exams.
Proctors do not need a computer and do not need to log in to the website. They are strictly involved in monitoring the test.
If multiple participants are testing in one location, they can use the same proctor.
*Note: The selection process and responsibilities for proctors used during the in-person nationals competition may vary.
