2015-2016 Individual Competition Highlights - India


This season Individual Competition Decathletes were classified, based on their school status, into two groups. Group 1 consisted of students who were homeschooled or enrolled in a school not participating in Academic Decathlon®. Students attending a school that participated in Academic Decathlon® qualified for Group 2.



Round IV  |  Individual Decathletes Competed at Nationals in Alaska
Individuals traveled to Anchorage to compete in the United States Academic Decathlon® National Competition on April 28 – April 30, 2016.

The top students of the two competition groups in each academic division; Honors, Scholastic and Varsity; qualified to go to the National Competition. Qualification was based on their group, division, overall objective test scores in Round III or State competition, and state residency

In addition to seven objective tests, the National Competition included essay, speech and interview.

Round IV  |  Online Nationals
A number of students participated  this year in the Academic Decathlon® Individual Competition Online Nationals.

Round III  |  Competition
The Essay test started the off the competition on March 4. On March 11, Decathletes took 7 objective subject tests. In this round, they were grouped by school status and then by academic category, which is based on their school GPA.

Round II  |  Scrimmage
This season, during the second round of competition, Decathletes competed by taking an Essay test on February 5 followed by the objective tests on February 19. The round included testing in 8 events; Art, Economics, Essay, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Music, Science, and Social Science.

In this round, students who were on an Academic Decathlon® team that was eliminated during team competition, team alternates, homeschooled students, and students not on an Academic Decathlon® team were eligible to participate.

Round I   |  Practice
Group 1* students were eligible to participate in the first round of competition for the 2015 - 2016 season on January 7, 2016. The round included tests on 7 subjects; Art, Economics, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Music, Science, and Social Science.

William G. of Florida took 1st place. His top score was in Science. Congratulations, William! Jiwei C. from Pennsylvania took 2nd in Mathematics. Way to go Jiwei!

* Group 1 students are home schooled or enrolled in a school that does NOT participate in the Academic Decathlon® team competition.
